Brian Challis of the UK favors us with two pictures from his recent visit to the San Antonio, Texas Riverwalk.
One of a Yellow-Crowned Night Heron, and one of a chick. Strange, given their species name, but they were both taken in the day time.
The San Antonio Riverwalk is a favorite of both locals and tourists featurings shops, restaurants to complement the scenic views. |

Here are a couple of Great Crested Grebes, one of which has been successful at fishing.According to the reference books I have of US birds, you don't appear to have this grebe.Great Cresteds are quite common here, and are about the size of your Red-necked Grebe. These photographs were taken on wetlands near Newport, on the Severn estuary.Best wishes, Brian Challis |

On the right is a male Chaffinch, photographed in the woods near Brian's home in England during 09 March. Adults are about 6 inches in size, and are one of England's commonest birds. Females are mainly pale brown in colour with wing bars in a the same pattern as the male. |

Thought you might like this picture of one of our favourite birds. It's a Blue Tit (short for Titmouse). I took the photograph at a RSPB managed site near Gloucester.
I occasionally check out your site to see what your customers are submitting. It's great. Brian Challis

This is a robin as we know them in the UK. Not quite the same as the coloured blackbird you Americans call a robin. It is a favourite bird in Britain, appearing on Christmas cards all the time. It also has a habit of sitting nearby when you are gardening, waiting for you to turn up something to eat.I have heard of a superstition though that it unlucky. Don't understand that myself.Any other good pictures of British birds I'll forward as and when.Brian Challis |

This picture of a Brazilian Cardinal. It was taken last March at a wetlands centre on the River Severn, Wales. As well as being a centre for wild swans and waders etc., they also have a captive collection of water birds from around the world, and a hot house for exotic birds and plants.
